1. Book your hotel a few blocks away from attractions
Enjoy sight seeing as you walk to and from your hotel. This will allow you to get extra steps in your route and save you money by booking a hotel a little further away from main attractions.
2. Walk to your Food
Traveling can be a great time to experience the local culture. What better way to do it than walk? Instead of calling a cab to take you dinner, walk. Light exercise after eating also helps with digestion and helps keep blood sugar levels down.
3. Plan Movement Into Everyday
If you know you will be sitting or standing (think museum tours?) then plan the second part of your day with more activity. Take a long walk along the beach or find bike tours or walking tours of the city to get in some movement and cover more ground.
4. Book for Fitness
When booking hotels, choose only those with fitness centers and/or guest passes to a near by gym. This makes it easier to roll out of bed right into the gym. This also allows you to maintain and track your daily activity.
The gym is great but also remember to take the opportunity to embrace the local outdoor activities. Hiking, canoeing, scuba/snorkeling are just a few of the options that you shouldn’t pass up!
